In a few days 2009 will be in the past, opening up a new year with new opportunities. Times were certainly tough this past year. How tough?
One organization created job board coupons for Recruiters, while recruiting budgets were hit hard, and attendance at industry conferences was also down significantly – by some projections as much as 75%. Whether or not you had the opportunity to attend ERE, or Kennedy/OnRec the reviews were mixed. For many, the fall ERE conference led the conference pack with the most positive feedback. SHRM’s Staffing Management Conference had the most attendees, and they are predicting 800+ for the Spring 2010 event.
Social media continued to buzz for a lot of HR Professionals and Recruiters. 2010 will likely be no different, but as technology and social capabilities continue to shape the landscape, we are still asking, “Do we have it wrong“? For Recruiters, we talked about the candidate’s voice, the millenial’s view, and the good, bad, and ugly with job aggregator sites.
For recruiters there were new services were launched from some vendors, while others rename services and reinvent themselves as experts in the space. Some job boards are no longer branding themselves as job boards anymore.
2009 was a tough year for many. Thanks to all readers and community members of The Talent Buzz, let’s raise our glasses and toast to a successful 2010.
