Social Media and Social Recruiting: The Candidate’s Voice

The social media craze is alive on many fronts and, for Recruiters, it is no different.  There are companies offering a wide variety of services to advance their presence online for recruiting, skill development for sourcing talent, as well as the first social recruiting conference being held in June, to name a few.

    Jason,

Can you tell me the survey package you used for this? I like that it shares the results with those surveyed.

  2. Hi Keith,

It is a plug-in “polls” package through WordPress.

    Thanks,

  3. With the first social recruiting conference happening this June, it’s amazing to see the bounds made within the current computer-based social networking realm. Twitter has taken off, as have many other social networking sites, allowing thousands to reach out.
What does the future hold for recruiters in social recruiting? How will their position be changing?

  4. Jason,

I can’t wait to see the results of this survey. I like how the range of your questions really have to deal with the effectiveness and actual usage of social network mediums. There is no doubt that social networking is skyrocketing and with more networks comes more opportunity to find talent.

  5. Jason – great questions and very interesting results! We’re developing a poll for the social recruiting summit and it will be interesting to compare the outcomes.

Here’s my thought on what appears to be hesitation in assigning greater value to social media and networking. Much of what we’re seeing today is socializing job postings. Posting a job to twitter or facebook is using social media but it isn’t leveraging the medium to build communities, which takes more time but returns higher value and is sustainable. The combination of these two is quite important. As job seekers engage with social media and networks their expectation for a response increases – just as in the early web days with email and then text. The companies that are effectively communicating with job seekers and closing the black hole will be more successful. For those companies that simply push out jobs through more and more channels but don’t address the importance of responding and engaging they dilute their brand and assume more risk of irrelevance in the future.
