In Lewis Carroll’s famous novel, Alice was a precocious child with her own idiosyncrasies. In my imagination, Alice did not fall into a rabbit’s hole into Wonderland. She was thrown into the 21st century instead. Within a year, she became the most famous Twitterer ever. How did Alice fit in the Twitter scene? With these four easy Twitter tips, you could be as mad as the Mad Hatter himself!
1. Identify your personal niche.
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
Before Alice became a rock star, she started her personal brand campaign on Twitter. She used her best asset (her absurd mind) to obtain a very strong Twitter fan base. Alice initially thought that Twitter was full of literary nonsense with its 140 character policy. Alice was used to communicating with others over a cup of tea, not with millions of people simultaneously. But, she finally learned the ways of Twitter and created her own empire. If you want to be successful on Twitter, narrow down your interests. Are you interested in computer engineering or art history? Pick an interest or two and work your brand around your Twitter account. If you cannot pick an online niche, then I guess you have completely gone bonkers!
2. Become the Rock Star.
“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
The quintessential rock star is the epitome of sex, drugs, and Rock & Roll. Rock stars have been living outside the norm for decades. Their lifestyles are glamorized and envied by those not the spotlight. If you want to be an expert in your niche, you have to not only walk the walk, but talk the talk. Research your industry or field daily. There are plenty of websites out there covering every field imaginable or unimaginable as Alice would say. Every day, before you tweet, tap into your psyche and repeat, “I am the baddest rock star out there. No one can touch me.”
Alice redefined the rock star persona to her own liking. Each day, she would tweet stories that stretched far beyond the limits of a mad adolescent child’s imagination. Did that make sense? It was not suppose to! If you are confident enough in your level of expertise, the impossible becomes the possible.
3. Lie, Cheat, and Deceit. Make a Tweet Unique.
“Oh, you can’t help that. We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
Alice’s Twitter philosophy was to get the most unique and bizarre Twitterers to follow her, not the other way around. Innovators. Celebrities. Even spammers. Although Alice did not grow up in a world where it was possible to tweet with mere strangers, such an innovative idea was unthinkable in her time. Alice soon realized that she was not the only mad person in the room. And she used that to her own advantage to connect with other eccentric people on Twitter.
As a rock star, your tweets should not be the bland of your existence. I do not encourage you to lie about things in your life to make your tweets worth-reading. But then again in Alice’s head, lying is a breath of fresh air. Experiment. Post links from your website or vblog. Be inventive, never boring. If rock stars live extraordinary lives, your tweets should be extraordinary too. Twitterers, for the most part, do not follow uninteresting people. If you want to expand your personal brand, you must prove to others why you are worth their time. Alice has more followers than the top 50 most famous Twitter celebrities combined. Is that even possible? Has the world gone mad? Of course.
4. Throw A Mad Hashtag Party!
“Why is a raven like a writing desk?”
Like the typical, upper-class British girl, Alice hosts a tea party each week on Twitter. There are pasties, British tea, cake, games, and some odd combination of Mozart and Lady Gaga playing in the background. The Mad Hatter and his friends entertain the guests with more illogical riddles and dances. Anyone is invited. All you need to do is tag #AliceinTwitterland at the end of your tweets to join in. Alice picks a random time to host her Twitter parties. No rules. Anything can happen. No one knows when the parties start or end and that is the beauty of it.
When you reach a Twitter milestone, no matter how big or small, celebrate it with your followers. Invite them to a crazy chat session and woo them with your rock star charm. You want your followers to love you, right? Interacting with them and learning about their needs is an essential part of understanding your brand. Collaboration is the key to expanding your social media empire.
So, are you mad enough to follow these social marketing strategies? No answer? Off with their heads!

The same old rules apply to this new space, but they work that much better now than ever before!
Love this. Right on about finding and putting out your inner sex, drugs and rock n roll. (and the little practice over and over develops some outer rock star as well.)
